history

In the course of the administrative reform of 1952 , the district of Havelberg was formed on July 25, 1952 and belonged to the Magdeburg district . The district was a new administrative unit made up of parts of the former district of Jerichow II (Saxony-Anhalt) and the city of Havelberg as well as five surrounding communities that formerly belonged to the district of Westprignitz ( Brandenburg ). On May 17, 1990 the district was renamed the Havelberg district. With the district reform in Saxony-Anhalt, which came into force on July 1, 1994, the district of Havelberg became part of the greater Stendal district .
