The Gardelegen district was a district in the Magdeburg district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the district of Gardelegen in the state of Saxony-Anhalt . His area is today in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and in the district of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt. the seat of the district administration was in Gardelegen .

geography

The district of Gardelegen was in the Altmark and was traversed by the mildness , among other things . In the south, the district included a large part of the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide . Until 1987, the district of Gardelegen bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the districts of Kalbe (Milde) , Stendal , Tangerhütte , Haldensleben and Klötze .

From 1988 the district bordered clockwise in the north, starting with the districts of Salzwedel , Osterburg , Stendal , Wolmirstedt , Haldensleben and Klötze .

history

On July 25, 1952, there was an extensive administrative reform in the GDR , during which, among other things, the states of the GDR lost their importance and new districts were established. The then district of Gardelegen gave municipalities to the districts of Haldensleben , Kalbe (Milde) and Klötze . The new district of Gardelegen with its seat in Gardelegen was formed from the remaining district area . The district was assigned to the newly formed Magdeburg district .

On January 1, 1988, the Gardelegen district was enlarged to include parts of the dissolved district of Kalbe (Milde).

On May 17, 1990, the district became Gardelegen.

On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district was awarded to the re-established state of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990. During the district reform , which came into force on July 1, 1994, it went into the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and the Landkreis Stendal.

The F 71 from Salzwedel via Gardelegen to Magdeburg and the F 188 from Oebisfelde via Gardelegen to Rathenow served national road traffic .

The routes Berlin – Gardelegen – Oebisfelde and Bismark – Kalbe – Beetzendorf were used for rail traffic in a circle.

License Plate

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs beginning with the letter pairs HB and MB from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was HS 88-41 to HS 99-99 .

At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinctive sign GA . It was issued until June 30, 1994. It has been available in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel since November 27, 2012 .
