The Wolmirstedt district was a district in the Magdeburg district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the Wolmirstedt district in Saxony-Anhalt . His area is now in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt. The seat of the district administration was in Wolmirstedt .

geography

The Wolmirstedt district was in the Magdeburger Börde north of Magdeburg on the left bank of the Elbe . In addition to the Elbe, the Mittelland Canal and the Ohre were other important bodies of water. In the north, the district comprised a large part of the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide . The district bordered clockwise to the north, beginning with the districts of Tangerhütte (until 1987) and Stendal (from 1988), Burg , Magdeburg district , Wanzleben , Haldensleben and Gardelegen .

history

On July 25, 1952, there was an extensive administrative reform in the GDR , during which, among other things, the states of the GDR lost their importance and new districts were established. The former Wolmirstedt district gave municipalities to the Tangerhütte and Wanzleben districts . The new Wolmirstedt district with its seat in Wolmirstedt was formed from the remaining district area . The district was assigned to the newly formed Magdeburg district .

On January 1, 1988, the Wolmirstedt district was enlarged to include parts of the dissolved Tangerhütte district.

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Wolmirstedt district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district was assigned to the re-established state of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990 . During the first district reform in Saxony-Anhalt , which came into force on July 1, 1994, it was incorporated into the Ohrekreis . The CDU politician Thomas Webel has been the district administrator since 1991 .
