geography

The village of Jersleben is about 15 km north of the state capital Magdeburg and 4 km west of Wolmirstedt on the edge of Heide and Börde, between Ohre and Mittelland Canal.

history

Jersleben, also Gersleve and Jersleve, was first mentioned in 1144. Due to the ending of the place name in Leben , it is assumed that it was founded by the Warnings in the 5th century.

In the years 1660 and 1835 Jersleben was destroyed to three quarters in a major fire. The town's church was so badly affected by the major fires and damage in the Thirty Years' War that a new church was built from 1892 to 1893, which was consecrated by the local pastor on September 17, 1893.

At the beginning of the 1900 century there was a dry potato factory and a dairy cooperative in the village. From 1905 there was electricity in the village, which was generated by the Mittelmühle. The Melioartionsgenossenschaft as well as the tractor and threshing community emerged later. The LPG structure Jersleben was founded 1957th

The Mittelland Canal was built south of the village from 1928 to 1935 . In the course of the construction of the Mittelland Canal, the Jersleber Lake was created and the soil removed was used to fill the canal walls.

Cultural monuments

The town's cultural monuments include the church , the Herrenmühle and the Mittelmühle . The two watermills are considered to be the oldest buildings in town.

Coat of arms of Jersleben

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on January 7, 1997 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : “In red a silver mill wheel with 16 teeth and 4 twin struts arranged at right angles to each other, a silver mill iron on the mill wheel hub; in the shield head and in the shield base in silver a blue wavy bar. "

The church colors are white - red.

Due to its location on the Ohre, the municipality of Jersleben is traditionally connected to the water mills . The first water mill is mentioned in the chronicle as early as 1286. The Herrenmühle and the Mittelmühle are still in the village today. The blue wave bars symbolize the ears and the Mittelland Canal. The place lies exactly between the two bodies of water, the Ohre flows north past Jersleben and the Mittelland Canal touches the place south, this geographical situation is represented by the wave bars in the shield head and foot.
