Meitzendorf is a part of the unified community Barleben in the district of Börde in Saxony-Anhalt .
history
Meitzendorf is first mentioned in 940 as Michotandorp . In 1564 the place got its current name. At the beginning of the 20th century, the miller Otto Beyer acquired the Böckelmann windmill and had it brought from Westerhüsen to Meitzendorf. The mill was the last Meitzendorfer mill. Around 1938, Beyers' daughter still ran a grist mill there .
As early as May 1, 1992, the communities of Barleben , Ebendorf and Meitzendorf founded the Mittelland administrative community to handle their administrative tasks . After a referendum, the three municipalities became the unitary municipality of Mittelland on July 1, 2004 , but was renamed Barleben on June 2, 2005 . The formation of the unified community was not without controversy, as the state capital Magdeburg itself sought to incorporate the community of Barleben. In a citizens' hearing in 2001, over 90 percent of the participants decided in favor of the formation of the unified church. The Territorial Change Agreement signed on June 13, 2001 came into force on July 1, 2004. The three localities benefit today from the tax power of the unified municipality. Meitzendorf has a local council and local mayor, who have been given local community affairs for their own decision.
