geography

The district of Wanzleben was in the Magdeburg Börde west of Magdeburg. It bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the districts of Haldensleben , Wolmirstedt , Magdeburg , Schönebeck , Staßfurt and Oschersleben .

history

On July 25, 1952, there was an extensive administrative reform in the GDR , during which, among other things, the states of the GDR lost their importance and new districts were established. The then Wanzleben district gave municipalities to the Halberstadt , Oschersleben and Staßfurt districts . From the remaining district area, together with parts of the districts of Haldensleben and Wolmirstedt, the new district of Wanzleben , based in Wanzleben, was formed. The district was assigned to the newly formed Magdeburg district .

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Wanzleben district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district was awarded to the re-established state of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990. During the first district reform in Saxony-Anhalt , which came into force on July 1, 1994, it was incorporated into the Bördekreis .
