history
The place was first mentioned in a deed of donation from the year 937. Otto I gave goods with the name "Germesleva" to the Mauritius monastery in Magdeburg . A little later a Count Christian von Grimhereslebu appears in documents.

politics

coat of arms
The coat of arms was awarded on March 16, 1938 by the President of the Province of Saxony and confirmed by the Ministry of the Interior on October 10, 1991.
Blazon : “In blue a golden spade helmet with a black and silver helmet cover; on it as a helmet ornament a seated silver, red-armored greyhound with a red collar to which a gold ring is attached. "
The name of the place (Grimhereslebu 937) goes back to the Old High German personal name Grimheri (from grim = helmet). This is why the helmet was chosen. The crest and the colors black, silver and blue are taken from the coat of arms of the von Kotze family , who lived here from 1489 to 1830 and are closely linked to the fortunes of the village.
The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg State Archives Councilor Otto Korn .

Landstrasse 76 connects Groß Germersleben with the B 246 near Klein Oschersleben in the north-west and the B 180 near Etgersleben in the south-east.
The Magdeburg – Halberstadt – Thale railway runs north of the village. The regional trains from Oschersleben to Magdeburg stop at Hadmersleben station every two hours. The closest long-distance train station is Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof .
Worth seeing
- The Castle United Germersleben counted to 1999 to the attractions of the town. A fire (arson) destroyed the 400-year-old baroque palace that day. In March 2013, a right-wing rock organizer bought the castle for 12,000 euros in order to organize Nazi rock and skinhead concerts on the associated site. However, he could not meet the requirements of the city and so the castle changed hands again in 2014. Now it belongs to a private person from Groß Germersleben.
- The Kapellenberg in the east of Germersleben is a hill about 30 m in diameter, which is bordered by a ditch and served as a burial place for several families.
- the Evangelical stone church
- A sundial from 1824 could be seen at house number 21 (now demolished) in the Strasse der Freundesschaft .
Sons and daughters of the place
- Hans Wilhelm von Kotze (1802–1885), Prussian civil servant and district president of Köslin
- Gebhard von Kotze (1808-1893), Prussian officer, most recently in the rank of lieutenant general
- Thilo von Trotha (1814–1888), Prussian major general
