Thilo Alexander von Trotha (born February 21, 1814 in Groß Germersleben , † December 20, 1888 in Schkopau ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Thilo was a son of the Prussian Rittmeister Otto von Trotha (1778–1862) and his wife Wilhelmine, born von Boden (1785–1873). The later Prussian Lieutenant General Ernst von Trotha (1819–1903) was his youngest brother.

Military career

Trotha visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . On August 10, 1831 he was transferred to the 1st Guard Ulanen (Landwehr) Regiment of the Prussian Army . With his promotion to second lieutenant in mid-April 1833, he was transferred to the 3rd Hussar Regiment . After a year-long command as a teaching squadron, Trotha rose to Prime Lieutenant at the end of February 1845 and received the Knight's Cross of the Guelph Order from his regiment chief King Ernst August I in June 1847 . In 1848 he took part in the battles near Schleswig , Busdorf and Düppel with his regiment during the war for Schleswig-Holstein . The following year Trotha and his association were deployed to suppress the revolution in the Palatinate and Baden . There he took part in the battle near Ladenburg and the siege and capture of Rastatt .

Promoted to Rittmeister, he became chief of the 2nd Squadron in mid-November 1849 . From May 16, 1857 to June 13, 1859, he was employed as a major and regular staff officer in the 1st Hussar Regiment (1st Leib-Hussar Regiment) in Danzig . Then Trotha was initially commissioned to lead the 6th Hussar Regiment in Neustadt in Upper Silesia and on May 12, 1860, he was appointed regimental commander. In this position he was promoted to colonel by the end of June 1864 . Trotha led his regiment in 1866 in the war against Austria in the battle of Königgrätz . In addition, he acted during the campaign as leader of the division cavalry of VI. Army Corps . For his behavior Trotha received the swords of the Red Eagle Order III.
