Hohendodeleben is a district of the city of Wanzleben-Börde in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The district of Hohendodeleben in the Magdeburg Börde borders on the west of the urban area of Magdeburg ( Magdeburg-Ottersleben ).

history

Hohendodeleben is one of the oldest places in the Börde . It is first mentioned in a document in connection with a donation from Otto I to the Moritzkloster in Magdeburg in 937.

Around the 14th century, Hohendodeleben was surrounded by a high wall with four gates, so this detail was added to the coat of arms. The names of the gates were Sauretor, Kuhtor, Hirtentor and Kirchtor.

From 1405 Hohendodeleben belonged to the former Wanzleben office . The royal decreed potato cultivation began in 1725 and, in addition to the cultivation of sugar beet and chicory , brought an economic boom in the early 19th century.

On January 1, 2010, the previously independent communities of Hohendodeleben, Bottmersdorf , Domersleben , Dreileben , Eggenstedt , Groß Rodensleben and Klein Rodensleben as well as the towns of Seehausen and Wanzleben merged to form the new town of Wanzleben-Börde.

Name meaning

The original name Dodo-Leiba means possession of a people's man .

politics

mayor

The last mayor of the municipality of Hohendodeleben was Wolf-Burkhardt Bach. Werner Jander ( CDU ) has been the local mayor since the 2014 electoral term .

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on October 16, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : "In red a silver key, beard on the left and below, covered with a black bar with a silver strip and a silver wall split six times with four gate openings."

The coat of arms colors are borrowed from the Archdiocese of Magdeburg, to which Hohendodeleben belonged even before it was first mentioned in a document. The bar in the coat of arms reminds of the former fortification of the village by a wall with four gates. The key is a historical element from the feudal seal of the peasant community from 1676. In this seal, St. Peter was represented with the key as an attribute. Peter is considered the patron saint of the Hohendodeleben village church. The coat of arms was designed in 1987 on the occasion of the 1050th anniversary of the town in collaboration with the Ummendorf Agricultural Museum (now the Bördemuseum) and the municipality and designed by the graphic artist Günter Wollschläger from Langenweddingen.

The colors of the former municipality are red and white.

Remnants of the cow gate, it stood at the northeast end of the village, shows a picture from 1809. The Saure gate opened the way to the south. In front of the church gate, the paths to Domersleben and Wanzleben branched out, which were only demolished in the 19th century. The shepherd's gate was used by the community shepherd and the farmers could get to the windmills north of the village. Road construction in the 19th century was certainly the reason for the gate pillars to be demolished.

flag

The flag is red - white - red diagonally striped with an applied coat of arms on the white central stripe.

Memorials

In front of the Sankt-Peter-Kirche there is a war memorial for the fallen soldiers of the German War from 1866 and the Franco-German War from 1870 to 1871.
