Saint Peter Church (Hohendodeleben)
The Sankt-Peter-Kirche is the Protestant church in the village of Hohendodeleben in Saxony-Anhalt .
architecture
The church was built in the Baroque style in 1747 and 1770. The church tower to the west, built on a rectangular plan across the nave, comes from a previous building and goes back to the early Gothic or even the late Romanesque . On the west wall of the tower is a crucifixion relief from the 16th century donated by a woman Gertrud Katharina . The sound openings of the tower were renewed as flat arches. The choir has a three-eighth ending.
Very large pillars were added to the south side of the nave in 1899. In 1997/98 the church was restored.
To the west of the church is a historic war memorial .
inner space
The ceiling of the nave is designed as a wooden barrel and, like parts of the walls, is painted with rocailles . A three-sided gallery, based on an inscription in 1770, occupies the side walls of the ship. The furnishings come from the late baroque period. A pulpit altar made of wood and a baptismal font made in the form of a vase should be mentioned here . On the northern side wall of the choir is a stone relief from the mid-15th century showing Christ as Judge of the World in the mandorla .
The organ's front is in five parts and is sparsely decorated with acanthus .
