The Hohendodeleben war memorial is a listed war memorial in the village of Hohendodeleben, part of the town of Wanzleben-Börde in Saxony-Anhalt .

The memorial commemorates the six Hohendodelebeners who died in the German War in 1866 and in the Franco-German War in 1870/1871.

It is located in an elevated position to the west in front of the Sankt-Peter-Kirche at the entrance to the Kirchberg at the corner of Kleine Straße and Matthissonstraße .

Design and history

It is said to have been inaugurated as early as 1871. In the end, however, it was not completed until 1874. The construction costs amounted to 291 thalers. Originally, the octagonal stepped stone stele was crowned by a cross, which has not been preserved. The same applies to the complex stone edging that initially existed. In the base area, inscriptions and the representation of an iron cross were attached.

The inscriptions are also no longer legible. According to a memorial plaque that has been preserved in the church, the fallen are: Johann Christoph Andreas Arndt (* October 1, 1840; † August 5, 1866 in Rerau in Moravia ); Franz August Wilhelm Hoppe (born September 2, 1848, † February 9, 1871 in Saarlouis ); Andreas Stephan Hucke (born November 12, 1848, † January 13, 1871 in Berlin after being wounded on December 4, 1870 in Orléans ); Stephanl Friedrich Christian Klapputh (born December 7, 1839; July 3, 1866 in Königgrätz ); J. Schloede († 1866)?; Christian Stützel (born January 1, 1843; † August 30, 1870 at Beaumont ); Heinrich Andreas Thiers (born November 16, 1839; † August 30, 1870 at Beaumont).

In the local register of monuments , the war memorial is recorded as a monument under registration number 094 80 212 .
