Osterweddingen is a district of the Sülzetal community in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Osterweddingen is located south of the state capital Magdeburg in the Magdeburg Börde .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document on September 21, 937. In 1213, Osterweddingen was partially destroyed by Otto IV of Braunschweig. The construction of the (today Protestant) church began in 1321. In contrast to the nearby city of Magdeburg, Osterweddingen was not spared from the plague . A large part of the population was affected. In 1843 the siding, which still exists today, was laid. In 1945 the church was damaged by an air mine .

The coat of arms was awarded on November 22, 1937 by the President of the Province of Saxony .

Blazon : "In red a winged silver arrow slanted to the right."

This shield was carried by the von Weddingen, which died out in the 17th century. The colors are complemented in a modern way, based on the Magdeburg colors red - silver (white).

The coat of arms was designed by the graphic artist Willy Kluge , who lives in Osterweddingen .
