Osterweddingen is a district of the Sülzetal community in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt .

Osterweddingen is located south of the state capital Magdeburg in the Magdeburg Börde .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document on September 21, 937. In 1213, Osterweddingen was partially destroyed by Otto IV of Braunschweig. The construction of the (today Protestant) church began in 1321. In contrast to the nearby city of Magdeburg, Osterweddingen was not spared from the plague . A large part of the population was affected. In 1843 the siding, which still exists today, was laid. In 1945 the church was damaged by an air mine .

The coat of arms was awarded on November 22, 1937 by the President of the Province of Saxony .
Blazon : "In red a winged silver arrow slanted to the right."
This shield was carried by the von Weddingen, which died out in the 17th century. The colors are complemented in a modern way, based on the Magdeburg colors red - silver (white).
The coat of arms was designed by the graphic artist Willy Kluge , who lives in Osterweddingen .

Established businesses
The contiguous and approximately 300 hectare industrial area of the Osterweddinger and Dodendorfer industrial area called industrial area north was created only a few years ago. The first settlers were Deutsche Post DHL , which operates an important parcel center in town , and EDEKA Minden-Hanover . After the area has been expanded several times, many companies are now based, including the Glas Trösch Group with a new production site for laminated safety glass since 2006 . The Salutas Pharma GmbH produced locally ointments, creams and gels for the Novartis Corporation.
Transport links
Important connections are particularly the A 14 (direct) and the B 71 (approx. 0.5 km) as well as the B 81 (approx. 2.5 km) as a continuation of these .
The Osterweddingen stop is on the Magdeburg – Thale railway line . The regional express trains Magdeburg - Halberstadt - Thale / Goslar / Blankenburg stop every hour and the regional trains Magdeburg - Oschersleben every hour to two hours. The operator is Abellio Rail Central Germany . Buses to the surrounding towns are coordinated with the departure times of the trains. The closest long-distance train station is Magdeburg Hauptbahnhof .
A port directly on the Elbe is 18 km away. The next airport is in Magdeburg (5 km away), the next scheduled airport is about 110 km away ( Leipzig / Halle airport ).
