With the administrative reform of 1952 , in which the five states in the territory of the GDR were divided into districts, the Staßfurt district was created on July 25, 1952 as one of 20 districts in the Magdeburg district. The city Staßfurt was a district town headquarters of the District Council and after 1989 the district office . On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Staßfurt district. On the occasion of the reunification, the district was awarded to the state of Saxony-Anhalt. It went up on July 1, 1994 in what was then the Aschersleben-Staßfurt district .
