Seethen is a village and a district of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark Seethen, a village with a church, is about 15 km northeast of the old town of Gardelegen. The Lindstedter Grenzgraben flows to the east. In the north lies the approximately 48 meter high Hörsterberg.
Local division
The districts Lotsche and Seethen belong to the village of Seethen.
history
The village of Seethen was first mentioned as Sethen in 1380 , when Schulte, a citizen of Gardelegen, prescribed lifts from the mill for life to his daughter, a nun in Neuendorf Monastery . Further mentions are: 1418 Zeten , 1457 Sethen and 1498 Seten . The Urmes table sheet from 1843 shows that the original cul-de-sac village was expanded into a street village. At the beginning of the 20th century there was still a windmill on the Hörsterberg. Today there is a stable there.
In the mid-1906s, building sand was mined on the Hörsterberg. The dismantling did not start again until 1988, when urn graves were destroyed. The excavations in 1900 and 1991 allowed the salvage of a stone circle complex with 74 urn complexes from the younger Bronze Age .
Incorporations
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Lotsche was incorporated. The municipality Seethen came on 25 July 1952 by the district Gardelegen to circle Gardelegen . After its dissolution on July 1, 1994, it came to the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel .
The municipality of Seethen was incorporated into the town of Gardelegen by law on January 1, 2011 and thereby lost its political independence. Until its dissolution, it belonged to the administrative community Südliche Altmark , which had its administrative headquarters in the town of Gardelegen and which also ceased to exist on January 1, 2011.
