Location of Lindenthal in Saxony-Anhalt

Lindenthal is a district of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Lindenthal is located 2½ kilometers south-east of Gardelegen city center in the Lindenthal Forest nature reserve, a local recreation area with a nature trail. The Nesenitzbach feeds the forest lake created in 1915 with the bird meadow and a rhododendron island.

history

In 1905, the Lindenthal forestry department belonging to the municipality of Gardelegen had 21 residents. The current district of Lindenthal was not built until 1944 as Gardelegen Süd II in the course of the housing development, adjacent to the hunting lodge and the popular excursion restaurant of the same name. At the end of the 20th century, the state forestry company Gardelegen built the Lindenthal fire watch tower. In 2011 a planned privatization of the 600 hectare forest area was reported.

Culture

Lindenthal's natural beauties were sung about in 1816 by the guard Johann Wilhelm Bornemann in his song " In the forest and on the heath ". One hundred and fifty years later, the then famous wind musicians “Wiesenpieper” played their own “Lindenthal Waltz”.
