Schenkenhorst is a village and a district of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark church village of Schenkenhorst is located about eleven kilometers north of the old town of Gardelegen an der Milde and can be reached via the B 71 and the 1085 district road .
history
The first documented mention of Schenkenhorst comes from the year 1416 as in front of the village Schenkenhorst , when it was reported in 1420 that a cow was stolen from the citizen Hans Ludeke in front of the village. Other mentions are 1473 Schenckenhorst and 1687 Schenckenhorst .
The manor originally belonged to a manor that was dismembered before 1842.
politics
On December 11, 2008, the municipal council of the municipality of Schenkenhorst decided that the municipality of Schenkenhorst should be incorporated into the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on July 1, 2009.
After the previously independent municipality of Schenkenhorst was incorporated, Schenkenhorst became part of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. The local constitution was introduced for the incorporated municipality in accordance with §§ 86 ff. Municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt . The incorporated community of Schenkenhorst and the future district of Schenkenhorst became the locality of the receiving Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. A local council with eight members including the local mayor was formed in the incorporated municipality and now the village of Schenkenhorst .

Attractions
- The neo-Romanesque village church consecrated in 1875 . Among the most interesting parts of its furnishings are the remains of a medieval altar shrine , which suggest that there could have been a previous building here as early as the 16th century. The organ of the church was built in 1881 by master organ builder August Troch from Neuhaldensleben .
- The von Alvensleben manor house from 1705, once a kind of moated castle .
- Next to the church is the local cemetery with a park.
- In the center of the village there is a memorial for the victims of both world wars.
religion
The evangelical Christians from the village belonged to the parish of Schenkenhorst, which belonged to the parish of Estedt. Today they are looked after by the parish of Estedt, which belongs to the parish of Salzwedel in the Provostspengel Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
