Hemstedt is a village and a district of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark Hemstedt, a village with a church, located approximately five kilometers north-east of the old town of Gardelegen on the main road 27, in the south of Hemstedter flowing ditch to the west in the mildness .

history
Hemstedt was originally laid out as a street village, as can be seen in the Urmes table sheet from 1823.
The first written record dates from 1350, when the squire Moweryn a Hermann de Hemstede , citizens Gardelegen, with elevations from Bunemanns Hof in villa Hemstede invested . Further mentions are 1457 Hempstede , 1484 Hemstede , 1687 Hembstedt and finally 1804 Hemstedt .
In 1608 the village in Beritt Tangermünde belonged to the Neuendorf monastery . During the Thirty Years War , the village was completely destroyed in 1644.
During the land reform in 1945, 88 properties under 100 hectares were recorded with a total of 799 hectares, including two community meetings with a total of nine hectares. One resettler received 4.2 hectares from the land reform . In 1948 there were 10 buyers, five of them new settlers. In 1959 the first type III agricultural production cooperative, the LPG "Vorwärts", was established.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1974, the community Lüffingen was incorporated into Hemstedt from the Gardelegen district . On July 1, 1994, the Hemstedt community was reclassified from the Gardelegen district to the Altmark district of Salzwedel. The community Hemstedt belonged to the administrative community Gardelegen Stadt .
By means of an area change agreement, the local council of the municipality of Hemstedt decided on November 13, 2008 that the municipality of Hemstedt should be incorporated into the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on July 1, 2009.
After the hitherto independent community of Hemstedt was incorporated, Hemstedt and Lüffingen became districts of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. The local constitution was introduced for the incorporated municipality in accordance with §§ 86 ff. Municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt . The incorporated municipality of Hemstedt and future districts of Hemstedt and Lüffingen became the locality of the receiving Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. A local council with eight members, including the local mayor, was formed in the incorporated municipality and now Hemstedt .

Attractions
- The Protestant village church in Hemstedt is a rectangular romanised field stone hall with a drawn-in, semicircular closed choir from 1832. The square brick tower with an octagonal point above the western part is a later addition.

The Protestant parish of Hemstedt used to belong to the parish of Lüffingen. Since 1982 the parish has been administered together with Lüffingen by the parish of Lindstedt. Since 2007 it belongs to the parish in the parish Lindstedt Lindstedt area of the church district Salzwedel in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
