One resettler received 4.2 hectares from the land reform . In 1948 there were 10 buyers, five of them new settlers. After the hitherto independent community of Hemstedt was incorporated, Hemstedt and Lüffingen became districts of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. The local constitution was introduced for the incorporated municipality in accordance with §§ 86 ff. Municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt .
