About this picture
Location of the village of Peckfitz in Gardelegen

Peckfitz is a village and a district of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel in the north-west of Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The church village is located in the southwest of the Altmark , about 30 km northeast of Wolfsburg . The next larger towns are Mieste , Calvörde , Oebisfelde and Gardelegen . It is 10 km as the crow flies to the Lower Saxony border. The Bundesstraße 188 as the next supra-regional traffic artery runs 4 km south of Peckfitz, as does the high-speed rail line Hanover-Berlin .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document on August 16, 1438. At that time, Margrave Friedrich the Younger enfeoffed the brothers Ludolf, Busse and Gebhard von Alvensleben with goods in Peckfitz. "Two deserted Dorfstetten Dannefelde and Peckenissen" were also mentioned. The place name appears again in 1506 in a loan letter as "peckewitze". With eleven farms built in the shape of a horseshoe , a new settlement structure was created around 1580, most of which fell victim to the Thirty Years' War . With the support of the patron of Alvensleben, the residents built Peckfitz's first church building in 1746. During the resistance against the French troops, 12 Peckfitzer were killed by 1815, for whom a plaque with the names of the dead was placed in the church . In 1835 there were 203 inhabitants in 31 houses in the village. In 1869, in addition to the parish hall, the church tower went up in the flames of a devastating village fire. The latter was replaced by a new one in 1871.

Incorporations

Until 1807 the place belonged to the Salzwedelischen Kreis , from 1816 to the Gardelegen district . From 1898 onwards, the municipality covered roughly the area it is today. In 1918 the community was connected to the electrical grid . In 1940 Polish forced laborers came to the village. Peckfitz had been part of the Mieste community association since 1974. From 1976/1977 to 1992 the communities of Breitenfeld, Dannefeld, Jeggau, Köckte, Mieste, Miesterhorst, Peckfitz, Sachau, Sichau and Solpke were united in the Mieste community association. Since 1992 the communities in the Mieste administrative community have been working together. From 1994 the municipality belonged to the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel and until 2010 to the administrative association Südliche Altmark . On January 1, 2011, the previously independent municipality was incorporated into the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen together with 17 other municipalities of the also dissolved administrative community Südliche Altmark. Before the incorporation, the municipality of Peckfitz had 160 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2009) and an area of 5.91 km².
