Sichau is a town and part of the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark church village Sichau is located about 19 kilometers north of Calvörde between the Colbitz-Letzlinger Heide and the Drömling Nature Park .

Local division

In addition to Sichau, the village includes the districts of Siems and Tarnefitz .

history

Sichau was first mentioned in 1418 as daz dorff czichow and in 1419 as the dorf sichow in a complaint and damage calculation from Margrave Friedrich von Brandenburg dated May 24, 1420 against the Magdeburg Archbishop Günther because of the damage to the country by the archbishop and his subjects. In 1687 the place was named Zichow , in 1804 it was named Sichau .

The historian Rohrlach writes: The statement in Zahn that the place was mentioned for the first time in 1152 is incorrect, rather Sibow is meant.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Siems and Tarnefitz were incorporated from the Gardelegen district.

Sichau was incorporated into the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen on January 1, 2011.

The Protestant Christians of the Sichau parish belonged to the parish of Mieste. Today they are the parish area Mieste the church district Salzwedel, in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany serves.

The oldest surviving news about the parish can be found in the parish registers for Miesterhorst from 1634 onwards. The books for Solpke don't begin until 1829.

The former municipal coat of arms was approved by the district on July 13, 2009.

Blazon : "In gold, a red powder horn with a lid, hanging on its shoulder strap from a transverse green sloe branch with blue fruits, between the branch and the horn three (2: 1) cube-shaped blue crystals with silver facets."

The main colors of the coat of arms are - derived from the main coat of arms motif (powder horn) and shield color - red-gold (yellow).

The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .

The former flag is red and yellow (1: 1) striped (cross shape: stripes running horizontally, lengthways shape: stripes running vertically) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.

Culture and sights

  • The Protestant village church in Sichau is a half-timbered building from 1743 with an organ . The square west tower was renovated in 1959.
  • The local cemetery is located next to the church.
  • On the village square in Sichau there is a memorial to the fallen of the First World War with a general dedication for the fallen of the Second World War.
