About this picture
Location of the village of Wannefeld in Gardelegen

Polvitz belongs to the village of Wannefeld and is a district of the Hanseatic town of Gardelegen in the Altmark district of Salzwedel in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Altmark village of Polvitz is three and a half kilometers north of Wannefeld and just under four kilometers northwest of Letzlingen an der Milde . In the north is the 76 meter high Blue Mountain, in the west the almost 92 meter high vineyard.

history

In 1454 the Poluiz desert was first mentioned. The village was owned by von Alvensleben until 1945 and belonged to the Isenschnibbe line since 1620. In the year 1600 a Vorwerk Polwitz is called, which belonged to the middle class Uhden family in Gardelegen. In 1745 there was a sheep farm and two fishermen's houses, and in 1775 a colonist village with a water mill was built. In 1833 there was a report of an estate and a house of prayer in which services were held four times a year. 1842 by a diet capable manor talk. On the Milde in the north-east of the village in the forest stood two water mills, the Kenzendorfer Mühle (today Kenzendorf ) and the Neue Mühle (today Neuemühle). The rural community of Polvitz-Neuemühle (named in 1885) and the manor district of Polvitz-Kenzendorf were established in the 19th century . The chapel that existed in Polvitz at the beginning of the 20th century was demolished in 1945. The bell was later placed in the bell tower of the mourning hall of the cemetery in Wannefeld . It was donated decades ago by Hilka Hoppe, née Mechthild von Alvensleben.

manor

Hans-Detloff v. Kalben described the old manor house in Polvitz in 1959: It was on the peninsula of an artificial reservoir. The hall and pavilions were on both sides of the main ground floor, which contained the living and sleeping rooms. The one-story buildings consisted of plastered half-timbering with stucco and wood carving. The lead-covered flat roofs were surrounded by balustrades set with statues, the interiors decorated with ceiling pictures, stucco work and paintings, a kind of improvised theater architecture. The picture gallery and orangery formed a court of honor with the hall. Before that, the farm buildings were to the west on both sides of the entrance. A part of the way to Gardelegen was embellished by a row of statues. Two small buildings, “Belvedere” and “Fischerhaus”, stood in an ornamental garden on an artificial island in the Milde reservoir. This little jewel of the architecture of that time was created by Friedrich Wilhelm v. Alvensleben 1692, "attracted by the beauty of the location"; he probably used the house and park Marly, the creation of Louis XIV, as a model.

Incorporations

On September 30, 1928, the Polvitz-Kenzendorf manor district was combined with the rural community of Wannefeld to form the rural community of Wannefeld. So the manor Polvitz and the forester's house Kenzendorf came to Wannefeld. On July 1, 1950, the municipality of Polvitz-Neuemühle was incorporated into Wannefeld. This brought the Polvitz district and the Neuemühle residential area to what was then Wannefeld.

With the incorporation of Wannefeld to Gardelegen on January 1, 2010, the Polvitz district became the new village of Wannefeld and the Hanseatic city of Gardelegen. Neuemühle and Kenzendorf remained in the Wannefeld district.
