history

Wietersheim was first mentioned in a document in 1233. This involved the sale of half a hoof of land. The further development was co-determined by the owners of Wietersheim Castle .

From the period immediately after the end of the Second World War , the so-called "Poland Era" (1945 to 1949) is particularly remembered. The area around Wieterheim was used by the British military administration to group together the Eastern Europeans who had been abducted in the Third Reich and who were freed from German labor deportation after the war. Sometimes the German residents had to evacuate their houses in the municipality for the Poles on the instructions of the British occupying forces .

Until the municipal reorganization on 1 January 1973 and was Wietersheim km² an independent municipality with a total of around 6.95 1,127 inhabitants (31 December 1972) and belonged to the Office Windheim to Lahde in Minden . Wietersheim had 1211 inhabitants on October 1, 2010.

politics

The population of Wietersheim has been represented to the council and administration of the city of Petershagen since 1973 by a local mayor who is elected by the city council of Petershagen on the basis of the election results.

Herbert Marowsky is the local mayor.

Culture and sights

  • Wietersheim Castle has been located in the village since 1323, and has been destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. Most recently, the castle had to be rebuilt in 1950. It is now privately owned.
  • The oldest schoolhouse in the village, built around 1780, is the half-timbered building of the old school in the lower village. A larger school building was also erected as a half-timbered building and inaugurated in 1834. The inauguration of the third and last school building in Wietersheim took place on May 14, 1904, and was closed in 1968.

The Kulturgemeinschaft Wietersheim coordinates the dates of the numerous associations.

The music train founded in 1925 by the Wietersheim-Leteln volunteer fire brigade is known far beyond the boundaries of the district . Square concerts, participation in pageants and stage concerts take place in large numbers. The annual concert attracts hundreds of visitors every year at the beginning of November.
