Location of Petershagen in Petershagen
|
The core town of Petershagen , i.e. Petershagen without the surrounding, associated localities, lies with the exception of a few houses of the "bridgehead" immediately west of the Weser , at the mouth of the Ösper . Opposite, on the eastern bank, is Petershagen-Lahde .
history
Until December 31, 1972, Petershagen was a town in the Petershagen office and the seat of the official administration. On January 1, 1973, it was merged with several communities to form the new, significantly larger city of Petershagen.
Petershagen has a certain historical significance, on the one hand due to the castle (refuge for the Minden bishop) and on the other hand due to the Allied crossing of the Weser in Petershagen in 1945.
In the 1360s Petershagen received the rank of Wigbold with the right of Lübbecke .
politics
The population of the core city of Petershagen has been represented to the council and administration of the city of Petershagen since 1973 by a local mayor who is elected by the council of the city of Petershagen on the basis of the election result.
Wilhelm Lange (CDU) is the local mayor.
Culture and sights
Buildings
- Ev.-luth. Petri Church
A church built in the 14th century burned down in 1553. This was replaced in 1565 by a half-timbered building, which was probably only intended as a temporary solution. The massive new building that still exists today was finally built between 1615 and 1618. It presents itself as a Gothic three-aisled hall church based on the model of the town church in Bückeburg . In contrast to Bückeburg, however, there was no elaborate display facade. The tower, which was only added in 1732, is crowned by a French dome . The oldest piece of equipment is the crucifix on the altar, which probably dates from the 15th century . The early Baroque font , donated in 1647, comes from the former castle chapel . Further fittings include two chandeliers with double-headed eagles, one of which is labeled 1647.
- Former synagogue
The brick building of the former synagogue built in 1846/47 serves today as an information and documentation center on local and regional Jewish history. A sponsoring association, which also includes a working group, acquired the building, which was listed in 1988 and whose interior was destroyed during the November pogrom, and is responsible for its preservation. In addition to the renovation, the aims of the association are the processing of the Jewish cultural property and its history and the promotion of a memorial and information center in the building. (See also: Old Synagogues in North Rhine-Westphalia .)
- Former Jewish school house
In the immediate vicinity of the former synagogue is the old Jewish schoolhouse, which is currently being renovated and returned to its original state. A mikveh was found during construction in May 2008 . It is only the third find of this kind in Westphalia.
- lock
The state castle from 1305/06 was rebuilt in 1544–1547 under Bishop Franz II von Waldeck by the Swabian master builder Jörg Unkair into a Renaissance castle as a residence for the Minden bishops. The construction work was ended prematurely by the Schmalkaldic War ; North wing built around 1565; Another redesign around 1610. The town of Petershagen owes its name to its landmark, the former "Borg tom Petershagen", located directly on the Weser. In 1901 the castle was acquired by Heinrich Hestermann . Since 1967 there has been a hotel with a restaurant and café. Many cyclists on the Weserradweg use the hospitality.
- Former city school
Plastered building with a flat triangular gable, erected in 1826.
- Rectory
Simple plastered building with a crooked hip roof, built in 1829.
- Station building
The 102-year-old, listed station building is located directly on the Weserradweg and serves as a café and restaurant.
- Old district court
The building of the old district court, completed in 1913, with its impressive "Utlucht" (bay window) was used as a courthouse until 1984. Today the listed building serves as a cultural center and hostel. There is also a cafeteria and a meeting place. Since September 2004 the tourist information of the city Petershagen is in the house.
- Noble courts
Of the noble courts, only the former Besselsche Hof on Mindener Strasse has survived. The former house was built in 1765 by August Samuel Ehrenreich von Bessel. It is a two-storey solid building with a three-axis central projection, which was later rebuilt several times for school purposes. In the central axis are the remains of the earlier portal; however, the corresponding open staircase is no longer available. From 1938 to 1992 the building was used as a boatman's vocational school.
- Residential buildings
The residential buildings, which were originally mostly half-timbered, have often been heavily changed through renovations. To emphasize:
- Fährstraße 2 , Dielenhaus , 1651
- Fischerstadt 2 , around 1600
- Hauptstrasse 8 , Dielenhaus, marked 1705. The Utlucht was added in 1811
- Mindener Strasse 14 , the so-called old customs house. Single-storey half-timbered building, built around 1600; there are remains of carvings on the gable
- More Attractions
- In earlier days the ferry was the most important, as it was the only one, transport connection between Petershagen and Lahde. If you wanted to move from one place to another, you had to use the ferry. Only in 1970 with the completion of the Weser bridge did this situation become easier and the ferry connection was discontinued.
- Büschings Mühle is an octagonal windmill built in 1810, which stands on a stone substructure, and served as a production facility and supply facility until 1965. The mill was completely overhauled in 2005 and a new bakery was built next to it. Events around the mill take place several times a year (including the circle mill day) during which the mill is put into operation.
- The Weser Valley model at the old ferry port illustrates the landscape history and geology of the Weser Valley in an artistic form. An information board for cyclists and walkers provides information about the conception and artistic design of the model, which illustrates the history of the Weser Valley.
- The pier in Petershagen is a popular meeting point for sport boaters and water skiers and has its own slipway and connected water sports route on the Weser. The excursion boats of the Mindener passenger shipping company of the “White Fleet” also dock at the newly built jetty. Opposite, on the Lahder side of the Weser, there is a campsite.
- The Heldenhain, a small park on Kreuzstrasse, with a memorial for the fallen of the First World War .
