history

In 1327 the name Friedewalde was first mentioned in a document (Vredewolt). Around this time, Friedewalde Castle was also built. It served to defend the city of Minden . Another knight's seat, Haus Himmelreich, was built in the middle of the 16th century. Evidence of this building can still be found today (e.g. a cellar vault, stone evidence in the church). Until 1667 Friedewalde belonged to the parish of St. Marien in Minden. Friedewalde and Stemmer still form a parish today.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1st, 1973 Friedewalde was an independent municipality with a total area of approx. 20.94 km² and 1668 inhabitants (December 31, 1972) and belonged to the Petershagen office and the Minden district .

politics

The population of Friedewalde has been represented in relation to the council and administration of the city of Petershagen since 1973 by a local councilor, and after a change in 2009 by a local mayor. This is chosen on the basis of the election result by the city council of Petershagen. The last mayor (until 2009) was Alfred Borgmann, the current mayor is Karl-Christian Ebenau.
