Location of Hävern in Petershagen

Hävern is a district of Petershagen in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Minden-Lübbecke .

geography

Hävern is located in East Westphalia, northeast of the city center of Petershagen ; Hävern borders the Weser in the south and east (opposite are the districts of Windheim and Döhren ), in the north the districts of Buchholz and Großenheerse and in the west the district of Ovenstädt .

history

The history of Hävern can be traced back to 1198. It was recorded in a document that Bishop Thietmar von Minden gave up land. The tradition of operating a Weser ferry between Hävern and Windheim goes back to 1548. In 1837 it was finally determined which farms belonged to Prussia and Hanover. As a result of the structural change in agriculture, the number of inhabitants decreased from 300 to 116 today.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1973, Hävern was an independent municipality with a total area of around 4.65 km² and 179 inhabitants and belonged to the Petershagen office in the Minden district . On December 31, 2008, there were 119 residents in Hävern.

Culture and sights

  • The Weser ferry between Hävern and Windheim was first mentioned in 1548. On March 31, 1976 the ferry service was stopped. The PetraSolara ferry has been operating between the two Weser villages again since the summer of 2002 . It runs from April to the end of October on weekends and public holidays. In addition to the residents of Windheim and Hävern, cyclists in particular benefit from this possibility of crossing the Weser.
  • The district of Hävern lies on a thick layer of gravel. This led to significant gravel mining. The recultivated excavations were largely bought up by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and given to nature conservation . The land is now the owner of almost a quarter of the Haevern properties.
  • The Häverner Marsch nature reserve is 104 hectares in size. It is located in the natural area of the Weser Valley northeast of Hävern. The nature reserve, consisting of six larger still waters created by gravel excavation, is characterized by near-natural bank structures with flat banks, peninsulas and reed beds.
  • The Haevern associations have joined together to form a cultural community. The most important tasks of this community are to coordinate the events planned by the local associations and to carry out community events (e.g. village community festival, harvest festival, etc.).
