Location of Quetzen in Petershagen

Quetzen is a district of the city of Petershagen in the Minden-Lübbecke district and has 984 inhabitants.

geography

Quetzen consists of the six districts of Heide, Heue, Masloh, Spiekerberg, Teich and Timpen. Quetzen is for the most part on a hill in the middle Weser Valley and is traversed by the Gehle and Riehe streams . The Birkenkampwald lies in the center of the village, and Quetzen is bordered by the Schaumburg Forest . The places Lahde , Bierde and Frille border on Quetzen.

history

The first written mention of Quetzens took place in 1265 in a document from the Loccum monastery. At that time it was still called Quedel (hau) sen, which is derived from Quithilo, a first name and house for settlement. Another interpretation says that the place name is derived from the Middle High German word for heretic . In the past, the residents were under the feudal rule of the Loccum monastery and also had to perform services for Petershagen Castle. On June 12, 1845, the Teich district with 7 farms burned down almost completely in a devastating conflagration.

Until the municipal reorganization on January 1, 1973, Quetzen was an independent municipality with a total area of around 7.82 km² and 905 inhabitants (December 31, 1972) and belonged to the Windheim district of Lahde and the Minden district .

politics

The local mayor is Marvin Waidmann ( CDU ).

Economy and Infrastructure

In Quetzen mainly self-employed are service companies and only a few agricultural encountered businesses. Industry and retail were increasingly relocated to the neighboring town of Lahde over the years. The number of part-time farmers has risen sharply, while the number of full-time farmers has decreased.

The only special school in town, the Birkenkampschule, was located in Quetzen.
