The Plateau du Retord is a plateau in the French department of Ain . It is about 1000  m high between the Haut- Valromey , Bellegarde and Nantua on the territory of the municipalities of Billiat , Châtillon-en-Michaille , Hotonnes , Le Grand-Abergement and Villes .

The Plateau de Retord is a recreational area protected from economic activity. It is subdivided by various parallel troughs (predominantly above-ground drainage-free depressions) and intermediate ridges made of hard limestone. Here conifer and beech forests alternate with wide high pastures. The landscape is taken care of by the Groupement d'Intérêt Public du Plateau de Retord .

Luc Jacquet shot his film The Fox and the Girl in this unspoilt landscape (Ain region south of the Jura) made up of dense coniferous forests. Here he spent his childhood.
