The Fox and the Girl is a film by Luc Jacquet . It was released in French and Belgian cinemas on December 12th and in German cinemas on December 27th in 2007. The film opened in the United States on February 29, 2008. Bertille Noël-Bruneau plays the role of the girl .

action

One autumn morning, the girl Lila notices a fox off the road . Fascinated, she approaches him. Little by little she befriends the fox. Through the fox the girl discovers a secret and wild nature; their attitudes and relationships with animals change. She finds out that it is a ferry and she also finds her fox cub. Apart from the girl there are no people. In the last few minutes the girl - now grown up - tells her son about the past. She got the insight that one cannot bind the "wild nature" (of the fox) to oneself.

background

The film was shot on the Plateau de Retord in the French department of Ain , which the director knows well because he spent his childhood there. Recordings were also made in Abruzzo , Italy .

The film cost around $ 13 million to produce, grossing $ 29.6 million worldwide.

For the fox in the film, six foxes were needed to shoot: Titus, Sally, Ziza, Scott, Tango and Pitchou. Titus was the fox who had been tamed and trained by Marie-Noëlle Baroni. He died on March 17, 2008 at the old age of 12.

The German dubbing of the narrator was done by Esther Schweins .

Reviews

  • “The film [...] (looks) heavily over-sugared at the beginning. But if you don't let that put you off, you can focus your attention entirely on the wonderful landscape and animal shots that are Jacquet's forte. [...] the 'humanization' of wild animals (has) certain limits. One wishes that Luc Jacquet would also learn this lesson. "( Berliner Morgenpost )
  • “Fairytale-like, grippingly narrated nature adventure about the touching friendship between humans and animals captured in overwhelming recordings. After his great global success The Journey of the Penguins , Luc Jacquet remains close to the documentary in this feature film. "( Süddeutsche Zeitung )
  • “The problematic humanization of the animal world, as we know it as a stylistic device from countless Disney films, is also an issue for Luc Jacquet. […] Embedded in a kind of fairytale, overstylized story, the film gradually unfolds its message. And it is about an understanding of nature that is not based on hierarchy and property, but also demands respect and consideration from people. In return, Jacquet finds great pictures from the animal world, which, shot with enormous effort, add up to an exciting and coherent story. "( General-Anzeiger Bonn )
  • “The cautious, very restrained film concentrates entirely on the triangular relationship between nature, fox and girl, whereby the narrative voice from the off has an important dramaturgical function. A stroke of luck when it comes to approaching nature in the form of a semi-documentary feature film, which is about the importance of freedom for humans and animals. "( Cinema tip from the Catholic film critic) ( Lexicon of International Films )
