The Swahili Wikipedia (Wikipedia ya Kiswahili) is the Wikipedia in the Swahili language .

It is one of the largest Wikipedias of the Niger-Congo languages and also of the African languages ​​in general.

The Swahili Wikipedia was founded in March 2003 and initially grew only slowly. In November 2005, more than two years after it was founded, the number of articles only reached 100, in July 2006 the mark of 1000 articles was reached. In newspaper articles of the International Herald Tribune and New York Newsdays of August 27, 2006, the Swahili-language Wikipedia was mentioned in connection with other smaller Wikipedia-language versions. In February 2009 the number of articles had risen to 10,000. It was the first language version among the Niger-Congo languages ​​to achieve this value. On June 20, 2009, the Swahili Wikipedia homepage was revised and given a new interface design.

As of June 2012, Swahili Wikipedia had more than 23,000 articles; so it was at that time at number 81 of the largest Wikipedias. As of June 2012, it was the largest Wikipedia within the African languages, followed by Afrikaans Wikipedia, and was one of only two Wikipedias of the Niger-Congo languages ​​with more than 10,000 articles; the other was the Yoruba Wikipedia. In August 2015, the 30,000th article was created in Swahili. On November 12, 2018, it came in 88th place of all Wikipedia language versions according to the number of articles (47,197).
