history
Vieritz is a street village of Wendish origin and was first mentioned in 946 under the name "Viernkviz".
The place name is probably derived from the Old Slavic word virŭ for whirlwind and means something like wind place . The name ending -itz also indicates a Slavic origin.
In 1524 the place changed hands to the ore monastery of Magdeburg and was lent to the von Katte family , who lived there until the 20th century .
On September 30, 1928 was Gutsbezirk Vieritz associated with the rural community Vieritz. Vieritz was incorporated into the community of Milower Land on October 26, 2003 .
Attractions
The Protestant village church Vieritz , a single-nave hall church built from brick masonry , is one of the late Romanesque architectural monuments of the Westhavelland region (formerly the district of Jerichow II ) and defines the townscape. From the original building of the church from the first half of the 13th century , as a result of a fire in 1642, only remains in the basement of the tower and in the base area of the nave are preserved. The current church building dates mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries , which can be seen in the formal design, the tile formats used and the baroque roof structure.
On the eastern slope of the Vieritzer Berg , to the east of the village, is the prehistoric barrow field Vieritzer Berg . This consists of several secured and suspected barrows and is designated as a ground monument .
coat of arms
