The Kyritz district was a district in the Potsdam district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1993 it existed as the Kyritz district in the state of Brandenburg . Today, its area is largely in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in Brandenburg. The seat of the district administration was in Kyritz .

The Kyritz district bordered the Pritzwalk and Wittstock districts in the north, the Neuruppin district in the east, the Nauen and Rathenow districts in the south , and the Havelberg and Perleberg districts in the west .
history
The Kyritz district (also called the district in the first few years ) was formed on July 25, 1952 as part of a fundamental district reform in the GDR from parts of the Ostprignitz and Ruppin districts at that time . The states of the GDR were dissolved and new districts were created. The Kyritz district was assigned to the new Potsdam district . The seat of the district administration was in the city of Kyritz.
On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Kyritz district. On the occasion of German reunification in 1990, on October 3 or finally on October 14, 1990 (date of the state elections), the assignment to the state of Brandenburg took place .

The F 5 from Nauen via Kyritz to Boizenburg / Elbe , the F 102 from Bückwitz via Rathenow to Brandenburg an der Havel , the F 103 from Kyritz to Rostock and the F 167 from Bückwitz via Neuruppin to Frankfurt (Oder) served national road traffic . The F 5 also served as a transit route between West Berlin and Hamburg until 1982 .
The Kyritz district was linked to the GDR railway network by the routes Berlin – Neustadt (Dosse) –Boizenburg , Neustadt (Dosse) –Rathenow , Neustadt (Dosse) –Kyritz – Meyenburg and Neustadt (Dosse) –Neuruppin.

As part of the district reform in Brandenburg , the Kyritz district, together with the Neuruppin and Wittstock districts , was almost completely absorbed into the new Ostprignitz-Ruppin district on December 6, 1993. Only the Gumtow office came to the Prignitz district .
License Plate
Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs beginning with the pair of letters DI from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was DY 20-01 to DY 40-00 .
At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinctive sign KY . It was issued until the end of 1993. It has been available in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district since March 18, 2013 .
