Dessow is a part of the municipality of Wusterhausen / Dosse in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district , Brandenburg .

geography

The place is in the Ruppiner Land , about seven kilometers east of the center of Wusterhausen. The Westhavelland Nature Park begins south of Dessow . The next bigger city is Neuruppin . The metropolis of Berlin is about 90 kilometers away.

history

Dessow village church

The village is mentioned as early as 1357. Around 1490 Dessow belonged to the Ruppin rule of the Counts of Lindow-Ruppin, which was essentially imperial . Dessow was a fief of those von Rohr until 1597 , from then on it is led as a desert . In 1608 the place became a knight's seat.

The independent municipality has belonged to the Wusterhausen office since August 1, 1992 and has been part of the Wusterhausen / Dosse municipality since July 1, 2001 .

Brewing

Because of the barley cultivation around Dessow, the establishment of a brewery followed in 1867 by Mr. von Kriegsheim , whose family remained the owners of the brewery until 1880. This brought industrialization to Dessow. In 1992 the Dessow Castle Brewery was taken over by the Oettinger Brewery . With an output of around 280,000 hectoliters in 2001, the branch in Dessow was a large brewery. on August 1, 2009, operations ceased.

traffic

The village is located on Kreisstraße 6806 , which is run in the village as Neuruppiner Straße . The Dorfstraße leads to Ganzer , south of Dessow , where the street joins the Bundesstraße 167 . Another road leads to Trieplatz, 3.5 kilometers to the north .

In 1902 Dessow received a rail connection through the Ruppiner Kreisbahn route from Neuruppin to Neustadt . The town had its own train station for this, which was partly run as Dessow (Mark) and Dessow (b Neuruppin) . The passenger traffic was handled by the Prignitzer Eisenbahn GmbH until the end . On December 9, 2006, rail traffic was stopped after 104 years on the line.
