Vehlow is a district of the municipality of Gumtow in the Prignitz district in Brandenburg .

geography

The place is six kilometers east of Gumtow and 32 kilometers east of Perleberg in the northwest of the state of Brandenburg. The inhabited part of the municipality Brüsenhagen , which is two kilometers north, belongs to the district . There are also three living spaces: Brüsenhagen-Berg , two kilometers to the west, Kreuzkrug , two kilometers to the northwest, and Minnashöh, one kilometer to the east . The neighboring towns are Kolrep , Blumenthal and Rosenwinkel in the north, Wutike in the east, Gantikow and Demerthin in the south, and Dannenwalde in the west.

history

First mentioned in a document in 1248, Vehlow with its municipality of Brüsenhagen still has around 500 inhabitants.

The town's new school, built in 1984, was closed in favor of the smaller Demerthin school in 2002, despite a successful public petition. Since then, no substance-preserving repairs have been carried out on the associated sports hall.

On June 30, 2002 Vehlow merged with 15 other communities to form the community of Gumtow. At that time, the previously independent municipality had 553 inhabitants.

A new playground was built on the large village green in 2008 thanks to the strong commitment of the local residents and entrepreneurs . This passed its acid test on May 20, 2008, when around 1200 cyclists, residents, school and kindergarten children and guests stopped for lunch as part of the Tour de Prignitz from Wusterhausen / Dosse to Pritzwalk in Vehlow.

Vehlow celebrated its 760th anniversary at the beginning of July 2008.
