Döben village church

The village church Döben is a church building in Döben , a district of the city of Barby in Saxony-Anhalt .

The building, no longer used as a church today, dates back to the late Romanesque period and was built in the first half of the 13th century. To the west of the nave, which was built on a rectangular floor plan, the equally rectangular church tower stands across the nave. There is a gable roof on the tower . A few small arched windows from the original period have survived. The original village belonging to the church had become desolate . There was originally a cemetery at the church. Gravestones and skeletons were found.

The interior of the church was built in the course of a changed use and no longer exists in its original form. Extensions were built on the south and west sides. The non-church use has existed for a long time. In the 19th century the building served as a brewery . In the nave which was Gutsschmiede . The upper floor and attics were later used as granaries and for drying grain. A water tank was built into the church tower.
