history

The village of Kunaw was first mentioned in a document in 1305, on the occasion of the donation of the village and church by the margraves to the Havelberg monastery .

In 1804 the 65 Hufe village had 312 inhabitants and there were 41 campfire sites. In addition to a Lehnschulze, 25 whole farmers and ten Kossäts, 16 residents worked here. A forge and a water mill were available and the church belonged to the parish church in Kletzke , five kilometers to the west , which was part of the Perleberg inspection. At this time, the Lord von Knobelsdorf zu Kletzke was the owner of the place belonging to the Pritzwalkischer Kreis in the Prignitz of the Mark Brandenburg and postal part of Kletzke.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Bekenthin was incorporated.

On June 30, 2002 Kunow merged with 15 other communities to form the community of Gumtow. At that time, 470 people lived here.
