The Wittstock district was a district in the Potsdam district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1993 it existed as the Wittstock district in the state of Brandenburg . His area is now in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in Brandenburg. The seat of the district administration was in Wittstock / Dosse .

The Wittstock district was in the eastern Prignitz and was traversed by the Dosse .

The district bordered in the north on the districts Röbel / Müritz and Neustrelitz (both districts Neubrandenburg), in the east on the district Neuruppin , in the south on the district Kyritz and in the west on the districts Pritzwalk and Lübz .

history

On July 25, 1952, there was a comprehensive administrative reform in the GDR , in which the states were dissolved and new districts were formed. The old Prussian districts were dissolved and new, smaller districts formed. The new Wittstock district with its seat in Wittstock / Dosse was formed from parts of the then Ostprignitz district . The district was assigned to the new district of Potsdam .

On May 17, 1990, the district was renamed the Wittstock district. On the occasion of German reunification in 1990, on October 3 or finally on October 14, 1990 (date of the state elections), the assignment to the state of Brandenburg took place .

The district was integrated into the GDR motorway network through the Berlin Ring – Wittstock – Rostock and Wittstock – Zarrentin motorways. Both motorways were linked at the Wittstock junction .

The Wittstock district was connected to the GDR railway network by the Wittenberge – Wittstock – Neustrelitz and Wittstock – Kremmen lines.

As part of the district reform in Brandenburg , which came into force on December 6, 1993, the district became part of the new Ostprignitz-Ruppin district.

License Plate

Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs starting with the pair of letters DX from about 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was DS 15-16 to DS 20-80 .

At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinctive sign WK . It was issued until the end of 1993. It has been available in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district since March 18, 2013 .
