The Röbel / Müritz district was a district in the Neubrandenburg district of the GDR . From 1990 to 1994 it existed as the Röbel / Müritz district in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . His area is now part of the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The seat of the district administration was in Röbel / Müritz .

The Röbel / Müritz district was in the Mecklenburg Lake District and bordered on the Plauer See , the Müritz , the Kölpinsee and the Dosse , which marked the western border with Brandenburg . The source of the Elde was in the district.
Biggest places
The district had both the lowest number of inhabitants and the lowest population density of all districts in the GDR, only Röbel / Müritz had city rights. The largest towns in the district, besides the district town of Röbel, were the communities of Altenhof , Bollewick , Bütow , Fincken , Göhren-Lebbin , Leizen , Ludorf , Sietow , Stuer , Vipperow and Wredenhagen .

The Röbel district bordered clockwise in the north, starting with the districts of Waren , Neustrelitz , Wittstock and Lübz .
history
On July 25, 1952, there was an extensive administrative reform in the GDR , during which, among other things, the states of the GDR lost their importance and new districts were established. The new Röbel / Müritz district with its headquarters in Röbel / Müritz was formed from parts of the former district of Waren . The district was assigned to the newly formed Neubrandenburg district .
On May 17, 1990 the district became the Röbel / Müritz district. On the occasion of the reunification of the two German states, the district of Röbel / Müritz was awarded to the re-established state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . During the first district reform in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which came into force on June 12, 1994, it merged with the district of Waren and parts of the district of Neustrelitz in the new district of Müritz .

traffic
The Röbel / Müritz district was integrated into the GDR's motorway network through the Berlin Ring – Rostock motorway. The F 198 from Plau am See via Leizen and Vipperow to Neustrelitz and the F 192 from Malchow via Sietow to Waren also served national road traffic .
The Röbel / Müritz district was the only district in the GDR to have had no connection to the GDR's local rail traffic since 1966.

License Plate
Motor vehicles (with the exception of motorcycles) and trailers were assigned three-letter distinctive signs starting with the pair of letters CM from around 1974 to the end of 1990 . The last number plate series used for motorcycles was CU 60-01 to CU 85-00 .
At the beginning of 1991 the district received the distinguishing mark RM . It was issued until June 11, 1994. It has been available in the Mecklenburg Lake District since March 18, 2013 .
