In the GDR, chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides for agriculture and forestry were stored and applied in the Agrochemical Center (ACZ) .

The ACZ took on the special tasks of "chemicalizing agriculture " - that is, handling, storage and application of agrochemicals (chemical fertilizers, pesticides and agents for biological process control (MBP)) - for and on behalf of the agricultural production cooperatives (LPG). The ACZ provided spreading and spraying equipment for applying the chemicals. Agricultural aircraft were also provided by the GDR airline Interflug .

The ACZ were so-called inter-company facilities ( ZBE ) and responsible for the area of several LPG. In addition, they performed a variety of tasks, including outside of agriculture, such as transport, repair and maintenance, warehouse management and transshipment, as well as winter service tasks .

It was a form of specialization in large-scale agricultural production.
