In the north, with the Großer Schwerin and the Steinhorn, which is 19 m above the lake level ( 81  m above sea  level ), two headlands protrude into the lake, both of which are under nature protection .

The districts Gneve and Zielow belong to Ludorf.

history

Ludorf was first mentioned in a document on May 8, 1346 on the occasion of the rededication of the church by the Bishop of Havelberg . The story in the Middle Ages was dominated by the von Mori (h) n family, who founded the Mori (h) n settlement , which had not existed since the Thirty Years War, immediately north of Ludorf. Today the remains of the fortification are a ground monument. In 1686 the estate was inherited by the von Knuth family , who had the manor house built in 1698. The estate remained with the von Knuth family until 1901 and passed to the von Schulse- Bülow family through inheritance until 1945. During the GDR era, a children's holiday camp was set up and maintained in Zielow, which fell into disrepair after 1990.

On May 26, 2019, Ludorf merged with the subsequent community of Vipperow to form the new community of Südmüritz. The last mayor was Andreas Bau.

  • The Church is by its octagonal plan as octagonal church one in the brick Gothic rare architectural feature. The central building has a western porch and an eastern apse . Their consecration was mentioned in a document in 1346. The church may have had the knight Wipert Morin, who had returned from the crusade , built 200 years earlier, around 1150 , who had the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem as a model in mind. Various modifications were then carried out. It was expanded by a polygon chapel in the north and south.
  • Manor house (manor house) Ludorf from 1698, also built from the remains of the fortress Morin in Danish clinker renaissance style; the well-tended landscape park was created in the first half of the 19th century. Today: hotel with restaurant. There are other listed buildings on the estate, such as the wheelwright, stables and the estate manager's house.
  • The small local history museum not far from the church shows finds from the time when the landowners in the region made a noticeable contribution to the sailing ship building boom in the 19th century for reasons of expansion . It is located in the former estate manager's house, north of the manor house.
  • The path to the Ludorf lido leads behind the manor house through the park, a forest with ponds that all seem to contain black water, as the pond grounds are covered with rotten leaves.
  • At the lido you will find the stilted oak , which is unique in Germany in its growth form, an approximately 250-year-old stately pedunculate oak , the root area of which was exposed by early flooding and which then formed three trunk feet from the outer strong roots, which cover a cavity at ground level. It is a solitary plant around 23 meters high .
  • The tower hill northwest of the town center housed a fortified tower in the Hanseatic era . Today you can see the hill with some removed parts of the wall that were used to build other buildings and the largely drained moat surrounding it.
  • Zielow village church , a half-timbered building with a retracted tower from 1833/34.
