history

In 1178 Vipperow appears for the first time in a document in which the diocese of Schwerin from Pope Alexander III. has been confirmed. This means that the originally Slavic settlement is the oldest in the entire region around the Müritz. At the end of the 12th century, Vipperow was more important than the present-day centers of Waren (Müritz) or Röbel / Müritz, as can be seen from the remaining facilities on Burgwallinsel. Ceramic parts found here gave the Elbe Slavic ceramic style the name Vipperower Keramik . The Vipperow village church was built around 1300 and is the oldest in the region.

During the Thirty Years War , the village lost two thirds of its population and then recovered only slowly.

The crossing of the Müritz arm was realized from 1843 to 1846 by building an earth dam.

In the rectory (built in 1819), the “Vipperower Friedenskreis” met in 1988 under the leadership of Pastor Markus Meckel , who later became the (last) Foreign Minister of the GDR government. The actor Manfred Krug , who moved from the GDR to West Germany at the end of the 1970s, owned a country house in the municipality of Vipperow, which he gave to the municipality in the course of his move.

Tourism is to play an even bigger role in Vipperow in the future. In addition to the planned new construction of the yacht harbor and a holiday complex, the manor house in the Solzow district has already been renovated and converted into a castle guesthouse.

On May 26, 2019, Vipperow merged with the subsequent community of Ludorf to form the new community of Südmüritz. The last mayor was Jürgen Schulz.
