Vipperower Keramik, Björkö

The Vipperower ceramic is a elbslawischer ceramic style, from the 10th to the late 13th century in what is now Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the eastern Holstein was widely disseminated almost. The type of ceramic named by Ewald Schuldt after finds in Vipperow , Mecklenburg , is considered to be the leading form of late Slavic ceramics alongside the Teterower Group.

The goods were turned on the potter's wheel . It was a coarsely leaned brownish-gray earthenware that was finely muddy on the outside . The vessels are usually flatly decorated with belt grooves, notches and wavy lines. Short or wide curved edges predominate. Towards the end of the 13th century, the goods are only found in eastern Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania, where they are soon fired using the technique of western, gray earthenware and thus lose their identity.
