history

The word Jaebetz comes from the Hebrew . It “means 'God' and 'pain' in Hebrew, a designation that is supposed to remind of God's word 'born with pain'.” As the oldest part of the former community, Dammwolde first appears in a document in 1332. Jaebetz itself was founded in the second half of the 18th century.

The half-timbered Dammwolder church was built in 1736.

The village is traditionally shaped by agriculture. In addition to an agricultural cooperative, some companies work as a sideline (broiler fattening). In recent years, new homes have been built in Jaebetz.

With effect from January 1, 2010, the municipality of Jaebetz was incorporated into Fincken. The last mayor was Gerald Schmidt.
