Iden is a municipality in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany). It belongs to the community of Arneburg-Goldbeck .

geography

The municipality of Iden is located in the north of the state of Saxony-Anhalt on the edge of the Altmark . It is located in the Wische , a former floodplain of the Elbe , about eight kilometers west of the river. In the northeast of the village of Iden lies the Pheasant Garden Iden , a forest complex made up of local deciduous forests, a fauna-flora-habitat area.

Neighboring municipalities and cities are: the Hanseatic city of Werben (Elbe) in the north, the city of Sandau in the east, the municipality of Hohenberg-Krusemark in the south and the Hanseatic city of Osterburg in the west.

Community structure

The community consists of 7 districts:

history

In 1308 a Henningus de Yden in Sandau was named as a witness in a document. Iden was first mentioned in writing in 1334 as villam dictam ydem , when Margrave Ludwig bestowed possessions in Iden. Further mentions are 1377 in villa que dicitur Yden and 1687 Iden .

Iden, Busch, Rohrbeck, Kannenberg and Büttnershof were originally farming villages with a manor and a small number of craftsmen. At the end of the 19th century, there was a noticeable economic development through steam flights, railways, sugar beet cultivation and animal breeding.

On April 1, 1886, Iden was connected to the German railway network. The Kleinbahn Goldbeck – Werben (Elbe) with the Iden and Rohrbeck stations, owned by the manor owner Philipp Freise , connected Goldbeck on the main route between Wittenberge and Magdeburg with Werben on the important Elbe transport route. Initially built as a horse-drawn railway, in 1898 it was converted into a standard-gauge railway with steam locomotive operation .

Good ides

Gut Iden developed into a recognized model business in the 20th century. After the end of the Second World War , extensive expropriations occurred in the course of the land reform . The former manors in Iden, Rohrbeck, Büttnershof, Kannenberg and Busch and a farm in Germerslage were confiscated and the land was divided among the landless and poor.

From 1945 agricultural research was carried out in Iden . The property was handed over to the University of Halle as a research facility . Teaching and training were carried out on site, and scientists moved to the community to work here.

In 1962, the Iden experimental estate became the Institute for Animal Breeding and Keeping of the German Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Berlin . In 1971, the Goldbeck – Werben (Elbe) railway , which ran over Iden, was shut down. In 1972 the Agricultural Institute was renamed the Institute for Cattle Production with a focus on technology.

Moated castle

A covered moated castle is located in the northwest corner of the village between Seegraben and Gutsallee. Indistinct remnants of trenches can be seen that surround a trapezoidal former courtyard, which in 1598 was called "the Borchwall", located next to the courtyard of Peter von Rindtorf.

Incorporations

On September 30, 1928, the manor Iden was united with the rural community of Iden. On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Busch and Rohrbeck from the district of Osterburg were incorporated into the community of Iden. On July 25, 1952, the community of Iden was reclassified from the district of Osterburg to the district of Osterburg . On July 1, 1994, she came to what is now the district of Stendal.

As part of the municipal reform, the previously independent municipality of Sandauerholz with its districts of Büttnershof, Germerslage and Kannenberg was incorporated into Iden on July 1, 2009.

Religions

The 2011 census in the European Union showed that of the 955 inhabitants of the municipality of Iden, around 23% belonged to the Protestant and around 4% to the Catholic Church.

For the Protestant Christians there are the parishes of Iden and Rohrbeck, which belong to the parish of Königsmark in the parish of Stendal in the Provostspengel Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . For the district of Kannenberg, however, the St. Nicolai community in Berge , parish Werben (Elbe), is responsible, which is also assigned to the church district of Stendal. The Protestant parish of Iden used to belong to the parish of Iden. The oldest surviving church registers Iden date from 1673.

The Catholics belong to the parish of St. Anna in the diocese of Magdeburg . After the churches in Giesenslage and St. Bernhard in Goldbeck were profaned, St. Joseph in Osterburg is the next branch church from Iden .

politics

mayor

Mayor of the municipality of Iden is Norbert Kuhlmann. He won the election on February 12, 2012 with 87.82 percent of the valid votes. His opponent was Rainer Pempel, who got 12.18 percent. A total of 479 people took part in the election. The turnout was thus 57.5 percent. It is Kuhlmann's second term in office. Rainer Pempel was Mayor of Iden from 2000 to 2004.

Municipal council

The municipal council election on May 26, 2019 resulted in the following results (the results from 2014 in brackets):

  • seven (8) seats voter group "Initiative for Citizenship"
  • two (2) seats voter group "Bürgergemeinschaft Sandauerholz"
  • two seats single applicants

Three of the 11 councilors are women. One councilor sends the initiative for closeness to the citizens and two the community of Sandauerholz. The turnout was 54.4 percent. In 2014 it was 45.3 percent.

coat of arms

Blazon : “Quartered by silver and green; Field 1 a black cow's head, field 2 an open silver book, field 3 three silver ears of wheat, field 4 a black gear. "

A coat of arms was developed as early as 1984, when Iden was celebrating its 650th anniversary. Since in the GDR neither legal principles for municipal coats of arms were applied, nor was the state taking into account the heraldic rules of a coat of arms, the "coat of arms" developed in this way could also be used in common law for years.

Originally the coat of arms of Iden was a three-pass with a cattle head, ears of corn and an open book on which all kinds of graphics (Gaussian bell curve, etc.) could be seen. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, when local coats of arms were again subject to legal obligations, the municipality then submitted a quartered shield. It included the symbols of the cow's head (cattle breeding), book (science and teaching), ears of wheat (plant production) and cogwheel (technology). Since several deficiencies were complained about by the experts of the state main archive, the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch from Magdeburg received the order from the municipal council in March 2002 to develop a heraldically correct and legally valid coat of arms combined with a flag and seal. This coat of arms was decided unanimously at the municipal council meeting on March 12, 2002 after a previous discussion.

Infrastructure

traffic

Two state roads run through the municipality of Iden . The state road 9 as a west-east axis leads from the L 1 in Kerkuhn over the federal road 189 , Osterburg and the L 14 to Iden. To the east, it is led via the Sandau ferry across the Elbe to federal highway 107 in Sandau. The north-south axis is the state road 16, which leads from the L 2 in Werben via Iden to the L 15 / L 32 in Stendal and crosses the state roads 14, 35 and the federal road 189. The third main street is Kreisstraße 1062 to Goldbeck in the south-west. The nearest train stations are in Osterburg and Goldbeck on the Magdeburg – Stendal – Wittenberge line . Until 1971 Iden had its own connection to the German railway network via the Kleinbahn Goldbeck – Werben (Elbe) .

education

The center for technology and animal husbandry is located in Iden, a training center for farmers of the State Institute for Agriculture and Horticulture Saxony-Anhalt. The farm serves as the basis for training and testing and includes dairy cows, suckler cows, sows, fattening pigs, ewes as well as fallow deer and sika deer .

Legends from Iden - "The wild Kannenberger"

In the Altmärkischer Sagenschatz, legends about the "wild Kannenberger" have been handed down. They refer to a Kannenberg family who owned the estate in the 17th century. The legends describe the wild Kannenberger as an authoritative, opinionated, often cruel hero, who could do what he wanted without being bothered by the courts, since he was in league with the devil.

Personalities

  • Franz Zielasko (1896 to 1943) was a resistance fighter against the Nazi regime and a fighter against Spain . He was born on July 19, 1896 in Iden and murdered on August 18, 1943 by the Gestapo in the Gladbeck police prison. There is a memorial plaque on the house where he was born. The local school in the GDR was named after him.
