The district of Königsmark, which roughly encompasses the area of the districts of Königsmark and Wasmerslage, is roughly bounded in the west by the Cositte and in the east by the Seegraben Iden (large watering) or the Beverlake.

Neighboring places are Maierbusch in the west, Meseberg in the northwest, Wolterslage in the north, Wasmerslage in the northeast, Iden and Rohrbeck in the southeast and Uchtenhagen in the south.

Local division

The locality of Königsmark includes the four districts of Königsmark (with the Packebusch residential area ), Rengerslage , Wasmerslage and Wolterslage (with the Blankensee and Rethhausen residential areas ).

history

In 1225 a Heinrici de Kungesmarck was mentioned as a Ministerialer when selling a meadow Prinzlowe .

The village of Königsmark was first mentioned in 1328 as in villa, que Konigesmarke nuncupatur , when Anna , Duchess of Breslau and wife of Arneburg, gave a bishop a farm in the village as a fief. Anna was the widow of Margrave Herrmann von Arneburg . Further mentions are 1541 Konigsmarck , 1542 Königsmarck , 1687 Königsmarck and 1804 village and estate Königsmark with windmill, forge, brickyard and jug.

First mentioned in 1164

The chronicler Christoph Entzelt announced in 1579 that a Heinricus, son of Count Werner II of Osterburg, had built the churches in Königsmark and Calberwisch in 1164 . The chronicler Beckmann and other authors also referred to it. The historian Corrie Leitz points out that the year 1164 cannot be historically proven.

Origin of the place name

The first part of the name contains a proper name, derived from the Old High German "chunni" for "gender" or from "chunnig" or "konig" for a "man of noble sex". The syllable "mark" stands for "border" or "area".

prehistory

A few fragments found in the village indicate a likely Old Slavic settlement from the 9th or 10th century. The Landwehr near Königsmark, a rampart, is undated.

Incorporations

On 25 July 1952, the municipality of King Mark was out of the district Osterburg in the district Osterburg reclassified. On January 1, 1974, the communities Rengerslage and Wolterslage (with Blankensee and Rethausen) were incorporated into the municipality of Königsmark. On January 1, 1990 the district Wasmerslage was assigned to the municipality of Königsmark. On July 1, 1994, the municipality of Königsmark was assigned to what is today the district of Stendal .

The municipal councils of the municipalities of Ballerstedt (on November 24, 2008), Düsedau (on November 12, 2008), Erxleben (on November 10, 2008), Flessau (on November 27, 2008), Gladigau (on November 26, 2008), Königsmark (on November 25, 2008), Krevese (on November 12, 2008), Meseberg (on November 19, 2008), Rossau (on November 10, 2008), Walsleben (on November 10, 2008) and the Hanseatic City Osterburg (Altmark) (on November 6, 2008) decided that their communities should be dissolved and united into a new unified community called the Hanseatic City of Osterburg (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on July 1, 2009.

Following the implementation of the territorial change agreement of the previously independent municipality of Königsmark, Königsmark, Rengerslage, Wasmerslage and Wolterslage will become districts of the new Hanseatic city of Osterburg (Altmark). For the included municipality, the local constitution according to §§ 86 ff. Of the municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt is introduced.
