Calberwisch belongs to the village of Düsedau and is a district of the Hanseatic city of Osterburg (Altmark) in the district of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Calberwisch, a row village with a church, is about 4 kilometers south-east of Osterburg on the edge of the Wische in the Altmark .

Neighboring towns are Osterburg in the west, Otto's courtyards 1 and 2, Meseberg and Meierbusch in the north, Packebusch and Königsmark in the northeast, Uchtenhangen in the east, Büssenhof in the south and Düsedau in the southwest .

history

In 1271 a Ruthardus, Johannes et Hyo milites, fratres, dicti de kalverwichs was listed as a witness in advertising in a document. Shortly afterwards, in 1285, Yone de Calverwisch was named in Stendal. In 1309 the village is mentioned as Calvary . Further mentions are 1518 tho the Caluerwisk , 1687 Calberwisch and 1804 village and Gut Calberwisch with a windmill.

On August 18, 1902, the official spelling was set to Kalberwisch , which was changed on December 19, 1902 to the Calberwisch common today .

Wasserburg and Bussenhof

The medieval moated castle, also called “Old Castle”, ie “the former court yard, was surrounded by a fortification moat, in the middle was a strong fortress tower. The old »Haus Calberwisch«, restored in 1629, was laid down in 1839. ”As Paul Grimm discovered in 1958, what remains in an oval lake is a rounded, slightly raised island. In front of the access dam in the northwest there is a slight elevation as the remainder of a castle building. A ditch, also only preserved in remnants, surrounds the former estate, in the southern part of which the lake with the core works is located.

Bussenhof was the name for the settlement around the former estate at what is now the southern entrance to Calberwisch, Dorfstrasse 1 and 3.

Origin of the place name

The name could be derived from the Old High German kalo (kalwer) for bald or light or from the Anglo-Saxon calf for beef , wisch means meadow .

Incorporations

On October 17, 1928, the manor district Calberwisch was united with the rural community Calberwisch. The municipality of Calberwisch was incorporated into the municipality of Düsedau on July 1, 1950 from the Osterburg district .

On July 1, 2009 the community of Düsedau was united with other communities to form the new unified community of Hanseatic City of Osterburg (Altmark) . With that, Calberwisch came as a district to the newly formed village of Düsedau and also as a district to Osterburg.

The Protestant parish Calberwisch used to belong to the parish of Walsleben. The parish Calberwisch is now looked after by the parish area Königsmark in the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

According to Ernst Machholz, the oldest surviving church records for Calberwisch come from the year 1815. Earlier entries can be found in Walsleben. Ernst Haetge, however, states that the oldest church books and registers date from 1672.
