Möckern is a residential area in the Erxleben district of the Hanseatic city of Osterburg (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

The Möckern residential area, today the northwestern part of the village of Erxleben, the street "Möckern", is entered as a place in the Saxony-Anhalt Viewer.

Neighboring towns are Ballerstedt in the southwest, Klein Ballerstedt in the west, Osterburg with the suburbs and Schilddorf in the north, Erxleben, immediately in the east and southeast, and Polkau in the south.

history

The village at that time was first mentioned in 1314 as in villa Mokeren , when Margrave Woldemar assigned certain income to an altar in the Marienkapelle in Stendal . Further mentions are 1344 mokern , 1362 dat dorp Arxsleuen, dat man ok numet Mokern , 1687 Möckern , and 1804 the village is called Mäckern or Möckern . There was a forge and a windmill.

Origin of the place name

The name is derived from the Slavic mokre for moist, wet.
