Wasmerslage belongs to the village of Königsmark and is part of the Hanseatic city of Osterburg (Altmark) in the district of Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Wasmerslage, a marshland village , is located on Seegraben Iden (Great Watering), about one kilometer east of Königsmark and about eight kilometers northeast of Osterburg in the Altmärkische Wische conservation area , a lowland area between the Elbe and Biese rivers .

Neighboring towns are Königsmark in the west, Wolterslage in the north, Rengerslage in the northeast, Iden in the southeast, Rohrbeck in the south and Uchtenhagen in the southwest.

history

The first documentary mention of the village Wasmerslage comes from the year 1343 as in villa wasmanslage , when Margrave Ludwig left a Hufe Land to the altar of the Holy Cross of the church in Uchtenhagen for the salvation of von Jagow in Wasmerslage. Further mentions are 1420 wasmersclage , 1431 wasmerslage vppe der zee , 1518 to Waßmerslage , 1687 Waszmerschlage , 1804 Wasmerschlage and finally 1842 Wasmerslage .

Agriculture

During the land reform in 1945, the following were determined: 4 properties under 100 hectares had a total of 278 hectares. Two farms with a total of 208 hectares were expropriated. In 1948, 15 full settlers each over 5 hectares and 11 small settlers each less than 5 hectares acquired from the land reform.

In May 1955 the first type III agricultural production cooperative, the LPG " Friedrich Engels ", was established. In the 1970s, the interim facility "ZBE Jungrinderaufzucht Wasmerslage" was founded. It initially comprised 5,000 animal places and was later expanded. It supplied pregnant heifers for dairy cattle farms and for export.

Origin of the place name

"Wasmer" is a person's name. The second part of the name “location” stands for “boundary sign” or “area”.

Incorporations

On 25 July 1952, the municipality Wasmerslage was from the district Osterburg in the district Osterburg reclassified. On January 1, 1957, the municipality Wasmerslage was incorporated into the municipality of Iden. On January 1, 1990 the district Wasmerslage was assigned to the municipality of Königsmark.

On July 1, 2009, the municipality of Königsmark merged with other municipalities to form the new unified municipality of the Hanseatic City of Osterburg (Altmark). The district Wasmerslage thus became the new village of Königsmark and the Hanseatic city of Osterburg (Altmark).

The Protestant Christians from Wasmerslage were parish in Königsmark . The parish of Königsmark is now looked after by the parish of Königsmark in the parish of Stendal in the provost district of Stendal-Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

A farmhouse in the village and a transformer station outside the village are listed buildings.

Economy and Infrastructure

Mesa Agrar GmbH operates a pig fattening facility with around 11,000 animal places on the former site of the ZBE Wasmerslage.
