history

Erxleben appears for the first time in a document in 1200 as Ercsleve, Ercsleue , when Count Siegfried von Osterburg gives 5 hooves to the Krevese monastery . In 1238 it is listed as Irkesleve , when Count Siegfried von Osterburg assigned villages and properties in the Altmark, with which he had previously been enfeoffed by the St. Ludgerikloster Helmstedt , to Abbot Gerhard von Werden and Helmstedt . Further mentions are 1287 Erksleve , 1314 in villa Yrcksleve , 1362 dat dorp Arxsleuen, dat man ok numet Mokern . In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the village is listed as Ergsleve and Erksleve . Extremely complex ownership structures are listed. The Schulze had his court free. There were 21 yards, Krüger, Müller and Windmüller. Also to be mentioned are 1446 Ergksleue , 1541 Arxleben , 1687 Erxleben , as well as 1804 the village of Erxleben with forge, windmill and two jugs.

Origin of the place name

The name could be derived from Argo , Erk , an old German personal name from the Old High German arc for greedy or arg .

Earlier mention 1145

The historian Peter P. Rohrlach writes that it is uncertain whether the information about Errekesleue , beginning in 1145 in the documents of the diocese of Magdeburg, is related to the Exleben near Osterburg. It could also mean the experience in today's Börde district.

Incorporations

On October 1, 1938, the municipalities of Erxleben and Möckern, both from the Osterburg district , merged to form one municipality of Erxleben.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Polkau was incorporated into the municipality of Erxleben. On July 25, 1952, Erxleben was reclassified to the Osterburg district . On July 1, 1994, the Erxleben community came to the Stendal district .

This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on July 1, 2009.

After the implementation of the territorial change agreement of the previously independent municipality of Erxleben, Erxleben and Polkau will become districts of the new Hanseatic city of Osterburg (Altmark). In 1901, Alfred Pohlmann passed on the legend "The ghostly train between Erxleben and Düsedau".
