Wilhelm Zahn said that the village of Ziegenhagen was mentioned as Cugenhagen in 1238 and belonged to the estates of the St. Ludgerikloster in Helmstedt, with which Count Siegfried von Osterburg was enfeoffed. In 1841 Peter Wilhelm Behrens interpreted Cugenhagen iuxta Rocgowe as "a desert village in the vicinity of Rochau". In 1836 he had written “Kuhagen a desert near the village of Rochau”.

In the Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 the village is listed as Zcegenhagen . Further mentions are 1540 Segelitz , 1551 Segenhagen , 1687 and also 1804 Ziegenhagen . Heinrich Christoph Steinhart states in 1800 “Ziegenhagen, called by the common man Zennhagen”.

religion

The Protestant Christians from Ziegenhagen are part of the Protestant parish of Häsewig, which formerly belonged to the parish of Groß Schwechten. It is now run by the parish area of small Schwechten the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

In the past, someone from every homestead went to church services, alternating young and old, every Sunday. You walked across the Kirchsteig. This began between the farms of Eggert and Vinzelberg, went across the field into the forest to the church in Häsewig. Each family had their pew and their own grave in the church cemetery. There is also the legend “ The Devil and the Church ”. The Häsewiger said the Ziegenhageners had persuaded the devil to park the church halfway between the two places. Then going to church in both villages would be the same length and therefore more fair. As it soon became too difficult for the devil to drag the church, he parked it after a short walk at the exit of the village in the direction of Ziegenhagen, where it still stands today.
