Land of Schollene

The Land Schollene (also Ländchen Schollene or Schollener Land ) between Stendal in Saxony-Anhalt and Rathenow in Brandenburg is an approximately 213 km² large terminal moraine that was formed in the Vistula Ice Age .

Geographical location

The northwest half of the state of Schollene belongs to Saxony-Anhalt, the southeast half to Brandenburg. Its landscape is bordered by the Elbe in the west and the Lower Havel in the north and east . The near mouth of the Havel in the north belongs to the Berlin-Hamburg glacial valley , the southern end of the area is the Elbe-Havel Canal . The wooded moraine area extends north-south and later in north-west-south-east direction for about 30 km. In the area there are wide valleys crossed by ditches, rivers and oxbow lakes.

The highest elevation of the terminal moraine is the Harkenberg in the north in the Kamernschen or Rehberger Mountains at 110.3  m above sea level. NHN ; According to other information, the terminal moraine is 40 to 99  m high. In the south of the Schollene region , heights of 60 to 86  m (Weinberg, Vieritzer Berg, Bützer Berg) are reached.

Infrastructure

In the central part of the Schollene region with the Klietzer Heide , about southeast of Klietz , lies the Klietz military training area . The federal highway 188 and the parallel railway line Stendal - Rathenow Lehrter Bahn cross the area in a west-east direction.
