Holger John

Holger John (born April 3, 1960 in Schollene ) is a German painter , graphic artist , event manager and gallery owner .

Life

Holger John is the son of the painter, graphic artist and author Joachim John and grew up in Zinnowitz on the island of Usedom .

John received drawing lessons from Otto Niemeyer-Holstein and worked in the workshops of the Greifswald Theater. 1977–1982 he learned the pottery trade in the ceramic workshops in Marwitz with Hedwig Bollhagen . From 1982 to 1985 he studied commercial graphics as a diploma course in Berlin-Schöneweide.

He then worked as a graphic artist at the Schwedt theater and studied painting and graphics at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts (Art Academy Dresden) from 1988-1993 under Siegfried Klotz , Elke Hopfe , Gerhard Kettner , with a diploma under Ralf Kerbach . In 1989 he engaged the Friends of Italian Opera as the main act at the HfbK for the annual spring salon (art festival) .

From 1993 to 1996 he was the artistic assistant of the Vice Rector Kerbach and was appointed lecturer from 2007 to 2010. From 1995 to 2002 John was Jörg Immendorff's assistant .

As an impresario , he staged art festivals and exhibition projects for the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden , Jörg Immendorff , Georg Baselitz , Gerhard Richter and the band Rammstein .

He has been running the Holger John Gallery in Dresden's Baroque Quarter since 2013 .

Holger John works and lives in Dresden , Berlin and on the island of Usedom .
